Most Bible software uses proprietary formats that lock you in. Lamplighter uses plain JSON - a standard format that any developer (or curious non-developer) can work with.

Want to add a Bible version? Create a JSON file with books, chapters, and verses. Want to create a commentary? Same format. The schema is documented and simple.

This means the community can contribute without needing special tools or permission. Find a public domain Bible text? Convert it to JSON and use it in Lamplighter. Write your own study notes? Export them as JSON and share.
